Classic Moong Dal Khichdi is a healthy, comforting, and wholesome one-pot meal made with rice, yellow split moong dal, and basic organic spices. It is highly recommended in Ayurveda for its detoxifying and easy-to-digest properties. Perfect for babies, recovery diets, or light dinners.
Required Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Organic Basmati Rice
- 1/2 cup Organic Moong Dal Yellow Split
- 1 tbsp Organic A2 Cow Ghee
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
- 1/4 tsp Organic Turmeric Powder
- A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
- 3.5 cups Water
- Salt to taste
Preparation & Steps
1
Wash the rice and yellow moong dal together. Soak in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
2
Heat A2 cow ghee in a pressure cooker or pot. Add cumin seeds and hing. Let them splutter.
3
Add the drained rice and dal. Stir for 1 minute in the ghee.
4
Add water, organic turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well.
5
Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles on medium heat. If cooking in an open pot, cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes until soft.
6
Open the cooker once the steam is released naturally. Serve hot with a spoonful of fresh ghee on top.
